Love Lift Me

Out of the Shadows – Part 2

Continued from previous article

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! (Deut 30:19 –NASB)

God knew all along that man is prideful and will want to “figure it out” their own way, what they think will satisfy them. So God created us with a so called missing puzzle piece that He holds in His hand, therefore it is only Him who can FILL that hole in our heart, that hole we are continually searching to fill. Oh the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden! It was how God meant things to be, but knew that they would not, that man would sin, and therefore man would need a Savior to restore what had been broken, the relationship. For God cannot look upon sin, and boy is pride a huge sin within itself, for His Word says that pride come before the fall (Prov 16:18).

So, there has been a war raging in your heart, in your mind, in the realm of good and evil that has been trying to win you over to choose a side. We are defined by our “searches”. We need to look at what we have chased after, for it gives us . . . clues. Where has your search taken you over and over? Is this what your heart was needing, or even truly wanting? In the midnight hour when you were by yourself, did you have a sense of peace about where you were in your life? Were the people around you truly there for you with the good things, during ALL times, especially during the dark chapters in your life? Was your heart still crying out inside, things you were afraid to express to others around you? Is the war being won?

Are we on the winning side? Our “searching and chasing” reveals the god that is winning the war. Think of your heart as the battleground of all the gods — god of money, god of riches, god of lust, god of drugs or alcohol, god of instant gratification, the god of it is all about me, the god of achievement, the god of entertainment. There are a million powerful gods waging war for your heart. Why? Because it is Satan’s mission to separate you from the one true relationship with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For it is and always has been since the Garden, sin that has separated mankind from our Creator. Satan, the devil, has death in the end for you, even death in this life that comes through broken hearts and lives. How do we KNOW this?

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].  (John 10:10)

So who has claimed the throne of your heart? Has it been good (God), or has it brought you to bad (the thief) places? At the end of each day, we can assess and see who has won our heart any given day. Our heart defines and determines who we are, how we think, and what we do. Our heart is such as Bunker Hill, where the gods gather and wage war. This is why in God’s word, He tells us this,

“Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.”

“Watch over your heart with all diligence,
for from it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:23).”

Therefore, since EVERYTHING flows out from the heart, our heart becomes the frontline for the gods at war. Why our hearts you may be wondering?

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. (Gen 6:5)

…. for the intent (strong inclination, desire) of man’s heart is wicked from his youth; (Gen 2:21)

Think about it for just a moment. Is not one of the first words a little one learns is, M-I-N-E!!!, as they yell this and snatch it away. We were all born of sin, for we are born of Adam, the first man. Furthermore, the heart is sick because it is where all our perceived notions of what may have happened to us in childhood, are stored away in our hearts, whether they are true or not. And then that recording gets played over and over again throughout our lives, keeping us suppressed, depressed and or oppressed (under). Your heart reflects your identity. And only Jesus has what it takes to heal our hearts, for our healing must come from the inside, out. To put on a clean shirt over a soiled body does not make the body clean. A smile does not mean we are well inside.

When Jesus heard this, He said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but [only] those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners [who recognize their sin and humbly seek forgiveness]. (Mark 2:17)

So my readers, are you here because of a “search”? Is your heart in need of healing? Or will you choose this day to remain in fear, in rebellion, fearful of what others may say if they know your secret? Jesus is asking YOU, yes, each one of us, saved and unsaved .

When Jesus noticed him lying there [helpless], knowing that he had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to get well? (John 5:6)

So I ask you, the one reading these words I have penned, are you willing to lay down your own thoughts of what has the potential to make you “happy”, but never achieves that goal? Are you willing to admit you cannot do this anymore, for you are tired and it never seems to work for very long? Are you willing to look beyond yourself, knowing your strength has failed you over and over? Are you truly searching for a love so deep that your heart begins to melt inside? I was there through desperate means, brought to my knees in sheer agony of thinking I was tough, and could do anything. I failed miserably, and oh how I sometimes wish I had (seen) before over half my life was lived. So I leave you with these last two truths from God,

But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom 5:8).”

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord [in prayer] will be saved.” (Rom 10:13)

Come to our fountain of love at Powerhouse and allow us to pray you in.
